Various initiatives have yielded impressive results by diversifying agricultural crops like avocados, bananas, and tea leaves, turning them into valuable commodities. Notably, the avocado production initiative has significantly increased output and become a significant source of foreign currency. To ensure the success of the region's banana production project, selected banana seeds are being developed through tissue culture and made accessible to the public. With more than 7,000 banana plants already cultivated on over 2,000 hectares of land, an estimated 2.5 million more are expected to be planted this year. To this end, we hereby announce the list of our undergraduate degree programs to help you decide on the program of your choice at our university. Eligible applicants meeting the minimum cutoff point to be announced by the Ministry of Education (MoE) are, therefore, cordially invited to review the programs and make an informed decision about their choice.

Ministry of peace national volunteer trainee youth have conducted a cleaning campaign in Jimma city.
With the slogan "goodness for unity" the volunteers in Jimma University Institute of Technology have conducted a cleaning campaign in Jimma city.
Alemayehu, the youth who came from Amhara region among the participants, said that he is getting enough knowledge about doing good for people and participation in the development of the country and that he is happily participating in the cleaning campaign.
Since the trainers come from different parts of the country, he also explained that they are getting experiences of caring and helping each other that can enhance the value of togetherness.
Young Askale Bogale, a trainee from Bale Robe, said that she is getting the knowledge to do various good deeds through the training. After the training she expressed that she is ready to serve her country by participating in many good deeds.

Jimma University is developing vegetables for food besides beautifying the campus with green development. It has also donated kosta and salad plants for the 3rd round to support workers. During the program Jimma University President Dr. Jemal Abafita, Vice President of Administration and Students Dr. Kenenisa and other higher officials of the university. They also appreciated the participating staff.
According to the National Voluntary Community Development Service Jimma Institute of Technology Training Coordinator Teacher Abebe Wele said that engaging young people in volunteering will help them to exchange their experience on peace, togetherness, culture, unity and goodness.
Akleum said that the cleaning campaign held in Jimma city will help the youth understand the joy of serving their people and make doing good things a habit to contribute what they can to their society.


Cluster Member Universities to Access Funding Opportunities

Members of the Western cluster public universities of Ethiopia have had meeting with the European Union to access funding opportunities. The opportunities are particularly focussed on exploring the current opportunities for Sub-Saharan HEIs with a special emphasis on capacity building. The universities in this network are: Jimma University, Bonga University, Worabe University, Mettu University, and Wolkite University.
The presidents of the universities held their first Zoom meeting with Mrs. Elena and her colleagues from EU and Mr. Mohammed Abazinab, CEO of Action for Humanity in Canada, to discuss opportunities for funding Sub-Saharan universities that Ethiopian universities could benefit from. The presidents agreed to tap into these opportunities through collaboration among themselves and with other similar higher institutions in Ethiopia and Africa. The importance of establishing a task force of technical experts was suggested.
Mr. Mohammed Abazinab, CEO of Action for Humanity in Canada, and a long-term partner of Jimma University played the pivotal role of linking the EU team with Jimma University, creating the opportunity of working collaboratively at cluster level to access the said funding opportunities.

Jimma University is currently hosting an annual forum for collaborative project management, bringing together professionals and academics from various fields to discuss and share ideas on the systematization of collaborative projects towards maximizing project impacts and partnerships.
The forum is organized by the Collaborative Project Management Office (CPMO) and features keynote speeches, panel discussions, and interactive experience sharing between Hawassa and Jimma University on collaborative project management. Attendees are expected to learn about best practices, tools, and strategies for managing projects collaboratively.


Jimma University and O-Yes Global Foundation signed a Memorandum of Understanding

Jimma University and the O-Yes Global Foundation have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to promote partnerships that will contribute to youth empowerment and development. This is essential for sustainable development and peace in the local community and for the country on the whole.
The MOU was signed by Jimma University’s president, Dr. Jemal Abafita, and the O-Yes Global Foundation's Founder & Executive Director, Mr. Kemal Abdela. The agreement outlines a strategic partnership that will foster the design and implementation of inclusive, innovative, and sustainable programs/projects for the youth and community.
Dr. Jemal Abafita praised the foundation’s commitment to supporting and strengthening Jimma University’s work with the community. He also stated that this MOU would create further opportunities to collaborate with many other partners.
Mr. Kemal Abdela expressed his enthusiasm for partnering with one of the top universities in Ethiopia. He believes that this collaboration will create new opportunities for the youth and the community.
The MOU was signed during a special ceremony at Jimma University, attended by university officials and O-Yes Global Foundation representatives.
O-Yes Global Foundation was established and registered in Thailand in 2014 and is working to strengthen ties between Asia and Africa.
