Shaggar City
A panel discussion is underway at the Sheraton Hotel to celebrate the establishment of Shaggar. Mr. Masfin Malaakuu, the vice presidential social cluster coordinator, highlights the purpose behind creating Shaggar city - to prevent displacement, build a historic city, and empower the people. In a display of generosity, the city of Shaggar has donated food grains worth over Rs 40 million to aid the famine-stricken people of Borana State. Mr. Guyyoo Galgaloo, the Deputy Mayor of Shaggar, assures that support will continue even as the city progresses.
Shaggar city, recently established in the Oromia Special Regional State, brings together various towns from the Financial District. It encompasses 12 townships and 36 districts, making it the largest city in the country with a population of over 2.5 million.
The city's establishment serves two essential missions - safeguarding the city of Finfinnee and serving as a political, social, and economic pillar for the Oromo people.
To celebrate the occasion, the 1st Shaggar Grand Race will take place at the Sheraton Hotel on November 17, promoting common development. More than 300 athletes will participate in the 5 km race, accompanied by a horse racing exhibition featuring over 700 horses.
